Terms of Service
The short version
- These terms are an agreement between you (or the organization you act for) and Steycode.
- The SDK is open source under the MIT License. The local dashboard is free. PeekInside Cloud costs $10 a month per organization after a 7-day trial.
- You own the data your apps send. You need the right to send it, and you choose what's masked.
- With advanced protection, if you lose every device, passkey and recovery key, your encrypted data can't be recovered by anyone, us included.
- Indian law applies, and disputes go to the courts of Wayanad, Kerala.
Who we are and what these terms cover
PeekInside is made by Steycode ("we", "us"), at the address at the end of this page. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of:
- the SDK, the
peekinsidepackage on npm, and the local dashboard it runs on your computer; - PeekInside Cloud: the web application at peekinside.dev and its subdomains, the API your apps send data to, and the emails we send for it;
- this website.
Together these are the "Service". The SDK's source code is licensed to you under the MIT License, and that license, not these Terms, governs what you may do with the code itself. These Terms govern everything we run for you.
By creating an account, or by using PeekInside Cloud or the local dashboard, you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you use the Service for a company or other organization, you confirm that you're authorized to accept these Terms for it, and "you" includes that organization.
Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract under the laws that apply to you.
- You sign in with a code we email to you, so anyone who can read your email can sign in as you: keep your email account secure. You're responsible for what happens under your account, and you must tell us at once if you suspect someone else has used it.
- Give us accurate information, and keep your name and email address up to date.
- An account belongs to one person. Don't share it; invite your teammates instead.
- Each person can belong to one organization.
Organizations and teams
PeekInside Cloud is organized in organizations, each with its own address on peekinside.dev, its projects and its members. The person who creates an organization is its owner. Owners and admins invite members and choose their roles, and the organization is responsible for what its members do in it.
Removing a member ends their access through PeekInside from then on. It can't take back data they already saw, copied or saved while they were a member.
Plans, trial and payment
- Local. The SDK and the local dashboard are free. They're meant for development on your own computer: on a server, the free plan stops recording.
- Trial. Each new organization gets a 7-day trial of PeekInside Cloud. It needs no payment details.
- Cloud plan. After the trial, PeekInside Cloud costs US$10 per organization per month, or the price shown when you subscribe. It's billed monthly in advance through our payment processor and renews automatically until you cancel.
- Taxes. Prices don't include taxes. Where the law requires it, we add taxes such as India's Goods and Services Tax (GST) to your invoice.
- Price changes. We'll email the organization's owners at least 30 days before a price change takes effect. It applies from your next billing period after that.
- Failed payments. If a payment fails, we'll tell you and try again. If it's still unpaid 14 days after it was due, we may suspend the organization's access to PeekInside Cloud until it's paid.
Cancelling and refunds are covered by the Cancellation and Refund Policy, which is part of these Terms.
Your data
"Customer Data" is what your apps send to PeekInside Cloud through the SDK (requests and responses, exceptions, timelines, database queries, logs and measures) and anything else you put into the Service.
- You own it. You give us only the rights we need to store, transmit and process it so we can run the Service for you, and we use it for nothing else.
- It's encrypted before it leaves your servers. The SDK encrypts Customer Data with your project's public key; we store it encrypted, together with the limited details described in the Privacy Policy.
- You're responsible for what you send. You must have the right to send it, and where it contains personal data (your users' email addresses, for example), you must have a lawful basis and have given the notices the law requires. The SDK records requests and responses in full, including headers such as Authorization and Cookie; it masks only some values, such as database query values bound to columns with sensitive names. Leave out or mask anything you don't want stored.
- Don't send regulated data you haven't masked. PeekInside isn't built to hold full payment card numbers, health records or other special categories of data. Mask or exclude them.
- It's kept for a limited time. PeekInside Cloud keeps Customer Data for 14 days.
When Customer Data contains personal data, we process it on your behalf under our Data Processing Addendum, which is part of these Terms.
With the local dashboard, recorded data stays on your computer. We never receive it, and keeping it safe is up to you.
Encryption and your keys
Your browser decrypts Customer Data with keys that belong to your account. How a new browser gets them depends on the protection you choose:
- Standard protection (the default): we keep a copy of your account's key, encrypted to a key only our servers hold, so that signing in with an email code is enough to unlock a new browser. We use that copy only to unlock a browser you've just signed in on, and to check that it works. Because our servers can open it, choose advanced protection if nobody but your team may ever be able to read your data.
- Advanced protection: only your devices, your passkeys and your recovery key can unlock your data. If you lose all of them, nobody can decrypt your existing data, including us. You can reset your encryption to keep using PeekInside, but data encrypted before the reset stays unreadable.
Acceptable use
You must not use the Service to, or try to:
- break any law, or infringe anyone's rights, including their privacy;
- send data you have no right to send, or monitor people in ways the law doesn't allow;
- gain access to accounts, organizations or data that aren't yours;
- probe, scan or test the Service for vulnerabilities without our permission (if you find one, tell us at support@peekinside.dev);
- overload or disrupt the Service, or upload malware;
- get around the limits of your plan, such as using the free local dashboard to record traffic on servers by working around how it detects them;
- copy, reverse engineer or resell PeekInside Cloud, except where the law or the SDK's MIT License allows it.
Our property
Apart from Customer Data and open-source components, the Service belongs to us: the software we run, its design, and the PeekInside name and logo. These Terms don't give you any rights in them beyond using the Service. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.
Other services
The Service relies on other companies to run, as listed in the Privacy Policy, and works with software you choose to use with it, such as your framework and database drivers. We're not responsible for those third parties' products or terms.
Changes to the Service
We improve PeekInside all the time, so features change. We'll give at least 30 days' notice before removing a feature of PeekInside Cloud that paying organizations rely on. Features we describe as coming next or planned are plans, not promises: they may change, arrive later, or not ship at all. We work to keep the Service available, but we don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted or free of errors.
Suspension and termination
- You can stop using the Service at any time, and cancel PeekInside Cloud as the refund policy describes.
- We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms, don't pay, put the Service or other users at risk, or if the law requires it. Unless that would be unlawful or let harm continue, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to put things right.
- When an organization's access to PeekInside Cloud ends, we delete its Customer Data within 30 days. Account details are handled as the Privacy Policy describes.
- The sections on your data, our property, disclaimers, liability, indemnity and disputes still apply after these Terms end.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. PeekInside is a tool for understanding your apps; it isn't a security product or a compliance tool. You're responsible for your apps, for testing PeekInside with them before you rely on it, and for keeping your own records of anything you need to keep.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, neither we nor you will be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue or data, even if warned they were possible. Our total liability for all claims arising from the Service or these Terms is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim arose and US$100. These limits don't apply where the law doesn't allow them to, such as to liability for fraud.
Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify Steycode against claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) that third parties bring against us because of Customer Data you sent, or because you broke these Terms or the law while using the Service.
Law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. If a dispute comes up, write to us first: most problems are solved that way, and we'll try for 30 days before either side goes further. Subject to that, the courts of Wayanad, Kerala, India have exclusive jurisdiction. If you're a consumer, you keep any protections the law of your country gives you that can't be waived by contract.
Changes to these Terms
We'll update these Terms from time to time, and the date at the top shows when the current version took effect. For changes that matter, we'll email account owners or show a notice in the app at least 30 days before they take effect. If you keep using the Service after that, the new Terms apply; if you don't accept them, stop using the Service and cancel your plan.
General
- These Terms, the Privacy Policy, the Cancellation and Refund Policy and the Data Processing Addendum are the entire agreement between us about the Service.
- You can't transfer your rights under these Terms without our written consent. We may transfer ours to a company that takes over PeekInside, and will tell you if we do.
- If a part of these Terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don't enforce a right straight away, we haven't given it up.
- Neither of us is responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond reasonable control, such as natural disasters, power or network failures, or government action.
- We send notices by email to the address on your account. Send yours to the address below.
- These Terms are written in English, and the English version is the one that counts.
